Pricing for Custom Tables

When people hear the phrase ‘custom solid oak table’, they often imagine something extremely expensive. While bespoke furniture can certainly reach high prices, our aim at Tablemaker is to keep things refreshingly straightforward and fairly priced.

We specialise in handmade oak tables that are built to order, but we work hard to ensure they remain accessible. In many cases, a custom table from our workshop costs far less than people expect.

Below is a guide to how our pricing typically works.

Choosing One of Our Designs

The most cost-effective way to order a custom table from us is to start with one of our existing designs.

Because we have already developed the construction methods, templates and proportions for these tables, we can make them efficiently while still allowing a high level of customisation. You are not simply buying a standard product – you are ordering a table that will be made specifically for you.

At the lower cost end of our range, smaller dining tables and desks start at around £700. For example, a compact table measuring roughly 140cm x 70cm falls into this price bracket.

As tables increase in size, the price rises gradually. Even fairly large tables – such as those around 210cm x 100cm – typically cost less than £900 within some of our designs.

For example, our ATO 55 Dining Table/Desk sits within this part of the price range.

Some of our more complex designs sit slightly higher, generally ranging from around £900 to just over £1,000 depending on size and specification. A good example is the Box 85 Dining Table/Desk, which features a more involved leg structure.

Even when customisations are added, our goal is to keep prices sensible and transparent.

All of our standard designs include price calculators directly on the product page. These are based on the specification shown in the product photos, which means you can adjust the size and immediately see an accurate estimate. This makes it much easier to understand what your table is likely to cost before making an enquiry.

As a rough guide, if you order a medium-sized custom oak table around 180cm x 85cm, you can usually expect the final price to fall somewhere between £750 and £900.

We believe this represents excellent value considering that our tables are:

  • made from 100% solid hardwood (almost always prime full-stave oak)
  • built to your exact size, available in centimetre increments
  • available with a wide range of customisation options

In other words, you are receiving a table that is made specifically for your home rather than adapted from a mass-produced product.

Commissioning a Fully Bespoke Table

If you would like something completely unique, we are also happy to design and build fully bespoke tables.

Because these projects can vary so widely, the price range is naturally much broader. The final cost depends on several factors, including:

  • the materials required – solid oak is more expensive than pine but much less than walnut
  • the complexity of the design, e.g. the extent of joinery and any added features
  • the design and development work needed before construction begins

For example, some bespoke projects require additional steps such as producing CAD (computer-aided design) drawings, building prototypes or developing new construction methods. These processes take time but can be essential for achieving the desired result.

As a very general guide, a simple bespoke piece with minimal design input might cost around £500, particularly if it is small and straightforward to make. At the other end of the scale, a large and complex table that requires mutiple weeks of work t complete could cost £3,000 or more.

Every bespoke project is different, which is why we always discuss the details with you before providing a clear quotation.
